What background removal does

Background removal detects the main subject of a photo — a person, a product, an object — and deletes everything behind it. The result is a PNG with a transparent background, which you can place on a solid color, a different photo, or a design.

How to remove a background online

• Open the Background Remover and upload your photo.
• Click Remove background.
• Wait while the AI model processes the image. The first time you use it, a small model downloads to your browser, so it takes a little longer; after that it is cached.
• Download the result as a transparent PNG.

Get a cleaner cutout

• Choose a photo where the subject clearly contrasts with the background — a dark product on a light surface is easier than a busy, similar-colored scene.
• Use good, even lighting. Harsh shadows and blurry edges are harder to separate.
• Start from a reasonably sharp, high-resolution image. Very small or heavily compressed photos give rougher edges.
• Check the edges after downloading. Busy or low-contrast scenes can need a little manual touch-up in an image editor.
