How to Edit a PDF Online for Free (Add Text Without Software)

What "editing" a PDF really means
A PDF is a fixed snapshot of a page, not a flowing document, so most PDFs do not store their text in a form that can be rewritten like a Word file. The reliable way to change a PDF in the browser is to add new content on top of the page.
Add text to a PDF in four steps
- Open the Edit PDF tool and upload your PDF.
- Click anywhere on the page to add a text box, then type your text.
- Drag the text into position and adjust its font size. Use the page arrows to move between pages of a multi-page PDF.
- Click Save edited PDF and download the result.
What this editor can and can't do
It adds new text to any page — useful for filling in a name or date on a printable form, adding a reference number to an invoice, or labeling a diagram. It does not modify the existing text already in the PDF, and the text color and font family use a standard default; only the size is adjustable.
If you need to change the original wording of a document, convert it with PDF to Word, edit it there, and export a new PDF.
Useful follow-up steps
After editing, you can add a signature with Sign PDF, stamp it with Watermark PDF, combine it with other files using Merge PDF, or shrink it with Compress PDF. The editing happens locally in your browser, so the document is not uploaded.
